TCU Donates Tree to Help Light Up the Christmas Season

A pine tree that stood for years outside TCU’s University Park branch has become the largest decorated Christmas tree in Indiana, on display at the Inn at Saint Mary's Gillespie Center.

A pine tree that stood for years outside Teacher Credit Union’s University Park branch on Cleveland Road in Granger has become the largest decorated Christmas tree in Indiana. TCU donated the tree to Holladay Properties for a display on State Road 933 at the entrance to the Indiana Toll Road.

Decorated by Polly McCarthy of Poppies Florist, the tree twinkles with 10,000 LED lights and features more than 650 ornaments, including homemade additions that anyone in the community is welcome to add.

The 55-foot tree had grown so large that it was scheduled to be taken down in the spring to prevent it from affecting power lines, so TCU decided to donate it for the holiday display at the Gillespie Center.

With the utility company planning to take the tree down in 2020, TCU could think of no better use for it than to become one of the biggest and brightest Christmas trees in the country.
