How it All Began…
Ninety years ago, TCU began with nothing more than an idea – that local teachers could pool their savings and lend to their peers in need of credit. Credit was hard to come by during the Great Depression, so on October 13, 1931, a small group of South Bend teachers put their heads together and with $10 formed what is now TCU.
From those humble beginnings, TCU has grown to be the region’s largest credit union with more than 300,000 members, over $4 billion in assets and 57 locations. Many achievements and milestones have been recorded along the way, but TCU’s principles and commitment to serve members and support communities have never changed. Our story began with a few teachers who had a vision of people helping people. While their numbers were small, their impact was significant.
