MY HOME: AFTER I BUY
Congratulations on your new home! Let’s get started with making sure you have everything ready to move in:
Preparing to Move
It’s a good idea to have new locks and keys installed. The previous owner may have given out a set of keys to family and friends.
It’s a good time to get rid of unwanted and used items; have a garage sale, donate items to a nonprofit.
Set up or transfer accounts: heating, electric, water, phone, cable, internet, recycling pick-up, trash pick-up etc.
Update your address - financial accounts, credit cards, investments, post office, driver’s license and employer.
Alarm System – if considering, make arrangements for installation. An alarm may also lower the cost of your homeowners insurance.
Open a Safe Deposit Box for your mortgage documents and other important papers. Contact a TCU Representative for information.
This is a good time to complete a Home Inventory list for insurance purposes.
Homestead Exemption/Credit – primary residence may qualify for partial property tax exemption or credit. Verify eligibility with your county and state. Your TCU Mortgage Professional can assist you with identifying the paperwork that will be required.
